Robyn Floored: Kody Reveals He Wants to Apologize – What Changed?

Kody Brown is hoping to leave the past behind him.

With years of tension between the family patriarch Kody and exes Meri, Janelle and Christine, he thinks it’s time to move forward with a clean slate. PEOPLE has an exclusive sneak peek at the upcoming episode of Sister Wives, where Kody reveals to his current wife Robyn Brown that wants to close that chapter of their lives by taking responsibility for his role in the drama.

“After that whole experience, it was still just weird at Coyote Pass,” Kody explains to Robyn while they are out at a restaurant in the Nov. 30th episode. He’s referring to the sale of their joint Coyote Pass property, which was finalized the episode prior and made for an uncomfortable run-in with Janelle and Meri. Neither exes spoke to Kody or Robyn as they signed the papers to sell their property.

Kody continued, “And then you talking to me about getting therapy, I kind of got just prayerfully tuned in, trying to go, ‘Okay God, what should I do about this mess that I’m in and how I feel?’ I just started getting this vibe that I need to go apologize.”

He explains, “What I need to own about the breakups, about how things happened with the family. I don’t know how to say this just straight as I can: I want to set them free, just get them to stop thinking, talking, being about me.”

When Robyn asks Kody how he plans to accomplish that, he simply says: “I go and apologize, because I’m angry and I’m just sick of it.”

In her confessional, Robyn admits that she was “shocked” to hear Kody say he wanted to apologize to his former wives, seemingly not entirely in agreement with his intentions or expectations of what will come of the situation.

“I was trying really hard not to give him too much reaction because I was processing it,” she notes. “He says a lot of things that may not even happen.”

Kody goes on to share exactly what he is sorry for — including “being angry” when Meri, Janelle and Christine “wanted out” of their ownership of the property after their back-to-back splits from Kody from 2021-2023. However, Robyn pushed back.

“I don’t think you should be so hard on yourself about being hurt, that’s pretty normal,” she tells Kody.

“But here’s the thing,” he replies. “Because I got angry, I caused other hurtful issues.”

In PEOPLE’s exclusive look at the Sister Wives season 20 mid-season trailer released on Nov. 23, viewers got a glimpse into how Kody’s exes reacted to his attempts to make amends.

“I don’t have a lot of trust with Kody,” Christine said, before Kody acknowledged: “I am walking into an environment where trust has been killed.”

He later goes into his conversation with Meri “a little bit nervous thinking that it could go really, really wrong,” and his suspicions seemed to be right.

“An apology is so needed here because this is still so toxic,” he told Meri, who asked, “Do you apologize that you are toxic to me?”

She then slammed her ex, saying: “His energy f—- with my energy.”

“You’ve got to stop with the apologize word,” she exclaimed. “The more you use it, the more it feels insincere.”
