In a recent podcast appearance, Jason and Mattie Duggar addressed the persistent speculation from fans about whether they are expecting a baby. Contrary to Jason’s playful “baby news” announcement, the couple clarified that they are not trying to have children at this time. Mattie, who is currently 21, explained that she wants to finish her bachelor’s degree in education before they start a family, a goal she hopes to achieve by May of next year.
The couple, who married in October, emphasized that they want to enjoy their time together as a married couple and truly get to know each other before adding children to the mix. This decision also goes against the Duggar family tradition of having a large family, as they have openly stated they will have no more than six children. Jason and Mattie have already broken from other fundamental family rules, such as having a supervised courtship and abstaining from kissing before marriage. Jason shared that while he loved growing up in a large family, he realized his parents were uniquely suited for that experience, and he and Mattie want to savor their journey at their own pace.
