Amy’s Court Panic
Amy and her husband, Brian, were arrested in Tennessee after an incident at a safari park where Amy was bitten by a camel. The police were called to the scene and, upon detecting a strong odor of marijuana, searched their vehicle. They found two ounces of marijuana and other drugs. Both were charged with illegal possession of schedule one and schedule six drugs, and two counts of child endangerment. Amy pleaded not guilty, claiming she had a medical marijuana card for chronic back pain. However, she was unaware that her Kentucky-issued card was not valid in Tennessee. The child endangerment charges were later dropped. Amy spent a cold and lonely night in jail and described the experience as something she never wants to repeat.
The Family Confrontation
After returning home, Amy discovered her camel bite was infected and had to seek medical treatment. While recovering, her phone was constantly ringing with people asking about the bite and the arrest, which she tried to avoid. Concerned about Amy’s behavior, her sister Amanda, along with other siblings, planned an intervention. When they tried to confront her about the incident, Amy became defensive and stormed off, shouting, “I’m done!” Another sibling, Amanda, also left in frustration. The intervention was unsuccessful, leaving the family worried about Amy’s future.
Tammy’s Empathy
Following the failed intervention, Tammy took a different approach and talked to Amy one-on-one. She approached the situation with empathy, telling Amy she couldn’t imagine how scary it must have been to almost lose her kids. This gentle approach led Amy to open up and finally express her fears and pain. Tammy’s compassion and understanding were a significant sign of her personal growth. She also accompanied Amy and Chris on a shopping trip for a court-appropriate outfit. During the car ride, Amy once again became defensive when Chris tried to emphasize the seriousness of the situation.
