By Katie Joy – Without a Crystal Ball
What started as a lighthearted video between Sister Wives star Meri Brown and her longtime best friend Jen Sullivan quickly took on a much deeper significance. Fans were caught off guard when Jen — who has been a trusted confidante to Meri for more than a decade — shared a deeply personal update that left many feeling heartbroken. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Jen revealed that her husband, Shawn, has been quietly battling sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, since earlier this year.

A Devoted Friend Facing an Unexpected Crisis
Jen has been by Meri’s side for years, ever since their unlikely friendship began in Las Vegas. Originally hired by Meri as a pest control technician, Jen quickly became more than just a professional contact. The two formed a bond that would last through major life changes. After Meri’s mother passed away, Jen made a selfless decision — uprooting her life and moving to Parowan, Utah, with her husband and children to help Meri manage Lizzie’s Heritage Inn. She became not only a business partner but a source of unwavering support for Meri during some of her hardest moments. That same spirit of loyalty is now being reflected back to Jen, as she navigates a terrifying journey with her husband’s health.

Jen’s Emotional Update
In a moving caption posted alongside a photo of her and Shawn on their 19th wedding anniversary, Jen opened up for the first time about their private struggle:
“This photo was taken just before Shawn began treatment for sarcoma — a rare and aggressive cancer. Since February, he’s undergone five weeks of radiation and two major surgeries, including removal of a third tumor that had grown unnoticed just outside the radiation area.”
She continued:
“Shawn’s recovery has been long and painful, but he’s slowly regaining strength and getting back to the shop when he can. We appreciate your patience with our adjusted hours… We’ve kept this close so our kids could finish the school year without added worry.”
Jen closed with a message of hope and gratitude, noting that July is Sarcoma Awareness Month:
“While this road was unexpected, we’re staying hopeful, grateful, and committed to catching any potential recurrence early… We feel your love and support every day.”
Meri Brown quickly responded with a simple but powerful message:
“Love you tons, guys.”

A Rare and Aggressive Disease
Sarcoma, as explained by the Mayo Clinic, is a group of cancers that arise in the bones and soft tissues — including muscles, blood vessels, tendons, and fat. Because it can develop almost anywhere in the body, it’s often hard to detect early. It is known for its aggressive nature and high recurrence rate, making treatment especially challenging.
Symptoms can vary widely but often include:
-
A lump or mass that may or may not be painful
-
Bone pain or fractures
-
Abdominal pain
-
Unexplained weight loss
Treatment typically involves surgery, radiation, and in some cases, chemotherapy — but outcomes vary depending on the type, location, and how early it’s detected.
Private Struggles in Public Spaces
Fans may have noticed Jen’s absence from her and Meri’s regular “Fridays with Friends” livestreams earlier this year. At the time, she vaguely mentioned stepping away for personal family matters, and now her reason is heartbreakingly clear. As someone who has walked a similar path — supporting a partner through cancer — I know how devastating and disorienting it can be. Life as you knew it changes overnight. The fear, the unpredictability, and the pressure of trying to stay strong for everyone around you can be overwhelming. But Jen’s message is also one of resilience and grace.
