NEW!! Joy-Anna Duggar Drops Bombshell! TWIN Baby Gender Revealed, Fans Left Speechless!
Breaking the Cycle: Joy-Anna Duggar Opens Up About “Disentangling” From Her Upbringing
NASHVILLE, Arkansas — In a revealing new Q&A session on her personal vlog, former Counting on star Joy-Anna Forsyth (Duggar) shared the emotional and spiritual “shaking” she experienced after reading the memoirs of her sisters, Jinger and Jill.
With her husband, Austin Forsyth, by her side, Joy-Anna addressed how these books forced her to confront the “Institute in Basic Life Principles” (IBLP) teachings that defined her childhood.

“It Rocked My World”
Joy-Anna admitted that while she had questioned some of her family’s strict beliefs as a teenager, it was Jinger Duggar Vuolo’s book, Becoming Free Indeed, that truly “rocked her world.” According to Joy-Anna:
-
The Impact: Conversations with Jinger before the book’s release brought suppressed doubts back to the surface.
-
The Gratefulness: Despite the “rattle” it caused her faith, she expressed gratitude for her sisters’ perspectives and their courage to speak out.
-
The Transition: Joy-Anna and Austin officially confirmed they are no longer part of the IBLP, though some of her siblings and parents remain involved.
The “Pants” Dilemma
One of the most relatable moments of the vlog was Joy-Anna’s discussion of her struggle with the family’s modest dress code—specifically, wearing pants.
-
She admitted it took a significant amount of time and prayer with Austin to feel comfortable wearing pants.
-
Having grown up knowing nothing else but skirts, she had to mentally “re-categorize” pants as modest rather than rebellious.
A New Way of Parenting
Joy-Anna and Austin are now focused on “delving into the Bible” for themselves rather than relying on the rigid rules of their past. By working through these “disentangling” steps together, they aim to provide a childhood environment for their own children that Joy-Anna feels she didn’t have—one based on personal truth rather than institutional control.
The Sibling Support System
While she didn’t name names, Joy-Anna hinted at a divide within the family, noting she attends church with some of her siblings. It is widely believed she remains closest to John-David and Abbie, as well as Jedidiah and Jeremiah, who have also shown signs of moving away from their father Jim Bob’s strictest mandates.
