Sister Wives Implodes: Cody Brown Faces His Loneliest Season Yet

“We’re officially done.”
With those words, Sister Wives viewers are launched into what promises to be the most emotionally charged season in the show’s 14-year history. In the newly released trailer for Season 19, premiering September 15, 2024, on TLC, it becomes painfully clear: Cody Brown’s family has shattered—and this time, there’s no putting it back together.

For years, Sister Wives chronicled the daily lives of Cody Brown and his four wives—Meri, Janelle, Christine, and Robyn—as they navigated the complexities of plural marriage. But the dream they once sold to the world has crumbled. Now, only Robyn remains.

The trailer opens with a dramatic confession from Meri Brown, once the first and legal wife:

“Cody and I are officially done. Are you serious? I’m not joking. Our marriage is over.”

Meri’s emotional revelation sets the tone for a season of raw heartbreak, emotional reckoning, and massive transitions.

New Love, Old Wounds

While one chapter ends, another begins—Christine Brown, who shocked fans in 2021 by announcing her departure from the plural family, has moved on and fallen in love. Her whirlwind romance with new husband David Woolley is featured front and center.

“I just had a date with this guy David,” Christine says, glowing. “We’ve already planned our second date.”

What began as a quiet exit from Cody’s life has become an unapologetic declaration of independence—and happiness. Christine and David’s relationship moves quickly from dating to cohabitating and, eventually, to a beautiful wedding in Moab, Utah, surrounded by family and friends.

Meanwhile, Janelle, once seen as the steady, practical wife, has also had enough. In the trailer, she is seen partying with Christine and breaking ties with Cody once and for all.

“Janelle doesn’t need a divorce,” TLC notes in a press release. “She’s just moving on.”

But moving on hasn’t been simple. Janelle discusses property disputes with Cody, frustrated that he’s ignoring her attempts to divide their shared land.

“I’ve actually thought about asking if he wants to buy me out,” she says. “But we gotta pay it off, and he’s not talking to me about it. So, I think I’m going to have to lawyer up.”

Grief, Guilt, and the Fallout

Beyond the breakups and betrayals, Season 19 tackles the devastating death of Garrison Brown, son of Cody and Janelle. The family, despite their fragmentation, comes together to grieve.

TLC calls it a season of “unimaginable heartbreak” and “triumphs through tragedy.” Garrison’s passing is expected to be one of the most somber and unifying moments in the show’s long run.

But while grief might draw the Browns together temporarily, the larger family structure is in complete freefall. Cody, in typical fashion, reacts to the exodus of his wives not with self-reflection, but rage and confusion.

“What did I do to deserve this?” he laments. “This was not how it was supposed to go.”

He spirals further, calling the situation a “civil war” and openly insulting Meri by saying the real problem was that he “married the wrong person.”

Meri, stoic and wounded, delivers one of the season’s most cutting responses:

“It’s not divorce that sucks. It’s marrying the wrong person and not having the decency to tell her until 32 years later.”
