Amy, 39, who was unaware of the abuse allegations until they became public, went directly to her Uncle Jim Bob Duggar’s house to demand answers, leading to the disturbing encounter with the man who is now serving a nearly 13-year sentence for child pornography crimes.

Amy Duggar King recounted the emotional meeting to Fox News Digital, describing Josh, 37, as utterly passive and nonresponsive.
“He stared at the floor for what seemed like an eternity and said nothing,” Amy recalled. Her anger and emotional distress were boiling over, but when she demanded answers, Josh’s demeanor changed in a disturbing way.
“A gradual smile crept across his face as I persisted in staring straight into his eyes,” Amy wrote in her book. “It was the kind of smile that sent shivers down my spine. A twisted grin that was unlocking a world of chaos, suffering, and pain…”
When Amy pressed Josh on why he had molested his sisters and a babysitter but never harmed her, he allegedly replied that he “knew better” than to try anything with her. Amy admitted: “It was the creepiest smile I’ve ever seen.” The terrifying moment forced her to realize, “I don’t know you at all.”
Jim Bob’s Condescending Intervention
The tension in the room escalated further when her uncle, Jim Bob Duggar, intervened in a condescending tone: “Now Amy, let’s not stir up contempt.”
Amy, who was furious that her uncle was more concerned with her “language and tone of voice” than the fact that his son was a predator, heavily criticized Jim Bob’s handling of the crisis.
“This is just my opinion… but I think the crushing reality was too much to bear,” she told Fox News Digital, suggesting her uncle was in denial. She stated her own parenting approach would have been drastically different, emphasizing that she wishes she had more information at the time to secure assistance for her cousins.

Amy and her mother, Deanna Duggar, were not privy to the family secrets and were “completely unaware until it made headlines.” Amy, who was branded “Crazy Cousin Amy” on the show because her more relaxed lifestyle was “out of the ordinary” compared to her “happily brainwashed” cousins, said the trauma altered her life and parenting.
Now a mother herself, Amy is determined to raise her son to be aware of abuse and to know his boundaries. She has also set clear limits with the Duggar side of her family, with whom she has not spoken to in several years.
“Boundaries are crucial for me… I love them, but a great deal has transpired,” she explained. Amy maintains hope that one of her cousins may eventually reach out to start a new friendship, urging them to “challenge the conventional wisdom” that defined their upbringing.
