‘Alaskan Bush People’ Bear Brown Talks Show’s Current ‘Status’

Bear Brown and his family became known to audiences thanks to Alaskan Bush People. Over the years, fans have continued to follow his story on social media. During a recent share, Bear wanted to address a question he’s often asked by fans, something he’s often discussed with his followers: if Alaskan Bush People could return to television with new content.
Bear Brown Shared A Recent Conversation He Had With Alaskan Bush People Fans
On Alaskan Bush People, viewers saw the Brown family as they lived off the grid in Hoonah, Alaska, led by Ami and the late Billy Brown. The show, which originally premiered on the Discovery Channel back in 2014, originally ran until 2022.
Bear Brown, Ami and Billy’s middle son, has often talked with fans about his life and family on social media. Recently, he shared an Instagram video in which he addressed a question frequently asked by fans: the current status of Alaskan Bush People.

Opening up the video, Bear shared that he “talked to the Discovery guys not too long ago, actually.” He then shared that one thing he is often asked about is whether or not Alaska Bush People is cancelled or not.
Bear Admitted To Being Surprised By The Response He Got
Bear shared that it had been “about a year” since he last spoke to network employees about the show’s current state. Asking if the show had been officially cancelled or not, Bear claimed that a “big wig” with a lot of clout with the network said they would get back to him after contacting the show’s “team.”
After hearing back, Bear said he was told that, “The official word is that the show is still on hiatus. They just don’t want to let it go right now.” Shedding some light on the situation, Bear claimed that the showrunners were currently going through a merger, noting that another merger was expected on the horizon. Thanks to this, he alleged, the show could be sold to a “big company.”

Fans know that Bear has described the show as being “on hiatus” in previous social media shares. He has also spoken out about claims that the show has been cancelled.
In fact, in this recent video, Bear admitted he expected his contact to tell him that the show had indeed reached its official end. According to him, the showrunners “still think that they may be revisiting it one of these days.”
A Few Commenters Shared Ideas On How They Think Alaskan Bush People Could Be Brought Back
“If they want to start it back up, you know, next year, or the year after that, I’m all on board for it, as long as I can still do my stuff on my social media and stuff.” As he noted, “people enjoy the show a lot.”
Bear continued, “A lot of you guys have really followed my family for a long time.” Sharing that he appreciated this, he also admitted he understood why the network wouldn’t want to give up on his family’s show.
Taking to the comments, fans shared their support with Bear. A few even shared some ideas on what directions the show could take going forward. Some comments included:
- “Love the show and definitely miss it! We still watch it all the time!”
- “It would be cool if you got your own show- Life after the bush! Appearances from the family of course. Or even they film them too and it’s pieced together the way they did Sister Wives. There’s always hope if it’s not canceled yet.”
- “There’s so much that they can do with the show. Doesn’t even have to be the whole family although that would be nice.”
- “It would be great if they came back, with new stories and adventures. They could even do mountain cooking, showcasing the mountains and the beautiful scenery. And doing what they do that we love so much: being themselves. Billy’s legacy.”
