The Brown family patriarch passed away in 2021 after suffering a seizure. Billy Brown reportedly left behind a lot of debts, ultimately resulting in the Discovery Channel canceling the reality show after 14 seasons. His wife, Ami, went through her own health scares over the years.

She was diagnosed with Stage 3 lung cancer in 2017. Ami Brown was declared cancer-free after undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments. However, her immune system is still weak from the treatments.

The damage to her lungs has resulted in several bouts of pneumonia. She was hospitalized in 2025 due to breathing problems and chest pain. She was rushed to the hospital and put in an induced coma in the ICU. Luckily, she recovered. But she’s not out of the woods yet.

“So, I just got a message that Mom is sick, that she’s not feeling particularly well, that she’s got a fever, and that she’s congested, and so they’ve taken her to the hospital,” he told his followers.

Ami Brown was en route to the hospital when he posted. He didn’t know any other information about what was wrong with her.
