In a recent video on TikTok, Bear had a ā€œmechanical questionā€ of sorts. As he started out, he explained that he wasn’t a mechanic ā€œwhatsoever.ā€

Bear explained that he was having problems with his car’s heater, noting that it wasn’t working at all for him at times. He also shared that he let it stay ā€œidle,ā€ for around half an hour, for it still not to work. However, he noted that driving seems to get the car going.

Recently, Bear noted that he tried using the gas pedal after it had remained idle for some time. He shared that, almost instantly, hot air started to blast through the vents. He then called on his audience, asking if they had any ideas why his car was like this, also noting that he tries to use gas sparingly.

Many Fans Took To The Comments To Suggest What They Thought Was The Issue

Taking to the comments, fans seemed to suspect low coolant was the issue. As one fan noted, ā€œMost likely caused by a low coolant level, a failing thermostat, or a clogged heater core.ā€

ā€œWhen your car just idles there isn’t enough coolant flow to heat the air, but when you push the gas the increased flow sends hot coolant to the heater core, and you feel the heat. Hope this helps.ā€

This was a common idea throughout the comments. Naturally, many also shared advice on what Bear could do to fix the issue. Some comments included:

  • ā€œLow on antifreeze or heater core might be getting plugged up but check the coolant first worked at a shop for years came across this problem often.ā€
  • ā€œDefinitely low and coolant had the same issue and some water or antifreeze and you’ll notice it coming on while you’re idling.ā€
  • ā€œYour heater core could be clogged. A few years ago this happened to me. I didn’t have any heat unless i was doing at least 30mph.ā€
  • ā€œVacuum line to the dampener door for fresh air intake to the cabin. This Vacuum line runs to the temperature control knob on the panel.ā€
  • ā€œif it’s an older vehicle it uses the vacuum system to open up the valve going to the heater core. Possibly a vacuum leak somewhere and when it gives enough rpm it pulls enough vacuum to open.ā€
