Jana Duggar Opens Up About Her Marriage to Stephen Wissmann and Her New Life in Nebraska
After years of speculation and public anticipation, Jana Duggar has finally tied the knot. The Counting On alum, 34, married her longtime friend and rumored boyfriend, Stephen Wissmann, 31, in a classic and elegant ceremony on August 15 in Prairie Grove, Arkansas. Now, the newlyweds are preparing to begin a new chapter together—this time in Stephen’s hometown of Nebraska.
In an exclusive interview with People, Jana opened up about the transition and excitement surrounding their new life. “He has a little house we bought that we’ve been fixing up and pulling together,” she shared. “That’s been fun.” The couple is working to turn the property into their home as they settle into life as husband and wife.

A Love Years in the Making
Jana and Stephen have known each other for years, and their relationship is closely tied through family. Jana’s brother, Jeremiah Duggar, is married to Stephen’s sister, Hannah Wissmann. While Jana and Stephen previously dated a few years ago before going their separate ways, they kept in touch—and reconnected earlier this year, rekindling their romance and falling in love all over again.
“It was like, what are we doing? We still enjoy each other, we still really appreciate each other,” Jana reflected.Stephen proposed on June 15, and for Jana, the timing felt just right—even if it came later than expected. “I haven’t always understood the bigger picture, but I know that God knows what’s best for all of us,” she said. “Getting married later definitely looks different.”
She continued, “I think that’s been the biggest thing—comparing myself to my younger siblings, who got married in their early 20s. But we’re older now, we’re in a different stage of life, a little more established… maybe even a little more stubborn,” she added with a smile. “But it’s good. We’re learning, we’re growing. It’s been different, but it’s been so sweet.”

From Long Distance to Everyday Life
With Stephen’s career as a pilot and frequent travel alongside his musical family, much of their relationship was long-distance. Now, being together daily is a dream come true for Jana.
“Just doing life together with Stephen and being together—it’s been such a sweet time. I’ve hoped for this, and wanted it, for a long while,” she said.
A Princess Moment on Her Big Day
Jana described her wedding as a “princess moment.” She wore a stunning ivory satin gown with a high neckline and a dramatic V-shaped back. The classy and modest design drew admiration from guests and fans alike. Clips and photos from the wedding, including her and Stephen’s first dance, quickly circulated online. One Reddit thread even dubbed her “Cinder-Jana” in honor of her fairytale wedding vibe.
Family Dynamics & Speculation
While the wedding was a joyous occasion, it also stirred speculation about Duggar family dynamics. Fans quickly noticed the absence of Jana’s sister, Jill Dillard, from the ceremony and wedding party—fueling rumors of a possible rift between the sisters.
Others shifted their attention to Jessa Seewald, who served as maid of honor. Wedding photos sparked rumors that Jessa might be pregnant with her sixth child, based on the style and fit of her dress. Some fans believed the design accentuated a baby bump, while others argued it was simply an unflattering bridesmaid dress.Jana, in her People interview, stated that she aimed for elegance in every aspect of her wedding. Still, not everyone agreed that the bridesmaids’ dresses matched the theme—or flattered the women wearing them.
A New Chapter Begins
With her wedding behind her and a new home to build in Nebraska, Jana is ready to move forward. Despite years of public speculation about whether she would ever marry, she’s now living out the life she always hoped for—with a partner she deeply loves.
“It’s been a long journey,” she said, “but it’s just the beginning of something beautiful.”
