1000-lb Sisters has taken on a more hopeful tone overall in recent seasons, particularly as Tammy Slaton has succeeded with her weight loss. However, with fans going back to earlier seasons of the show, there are a lot of signs of abuse, particularly with Tammy and Amy on the receiving end.
1000-lb Sisters: Tammy Slaton And Amy Slaton Have Dealt With A Lot
As 1000-lb Sisters fans have gotten deeper into Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton’s story over the years, it’s a narrative full of hardship and struggle. In addition to the sisters both dealing with issues related to their weight, they have also struggled finding and keeping meaningful relationships and more.
Even in earlier seasons, Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton both agreed that, growing up, they always felt like they only had each other, despite having older siblings in the family. Amy even admitted in previous scenes that they didn’t “get much love and affection growing up.”

In previous 1000-lb Sisters scenes, Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton both recounted bullying and more that they experienced growing up. They said: “We got told we were stupid, we were lazy, ugly, fat.” When a producer asked the sisters who this was coming from, they both agreed that it came from not just their mother, but from their older siblings as well.
While the 1000-lb Sisters siblings still fight every now and again in current TLC scenes, it’s obvious to many viewers that there is genuine love between them. So, the fact that even the older siblings bullied Tammy and Amy about being heavier when they were younger is coming as a shock to a lot of viewers who may have missed this the first time around.

It turns out, a lot of 1000-lb Sisters fans are going back and rewatching earlier seasons, and many of them are shocked over Amy and Tammy admitting that they were picked on by their older siblings, especially given the relationships that they all have now.
- One recent commenter said: “I don’t remember seeing that they did apologize to how they treated their youngest siblings growing up (we obviously know the mom won’t but she did say she was proud) do you think they changed after the show for face or they really change as individuals as far as treating them?”
- A second commenter said: “I just rewatched the first few episodes and the moms behavior and the things she says to them is appalling. I can only imagine the horrific treatment from her when they were younger and not on camera!”
- A third person said: “I feel sorry for them. Doesn’t sound like an environment where a child would thrive. No love, criticism , being called names is just so sad.”
