His Experience on Special Forces

The individual stated that when he was approached about joining Special Forces, he was immediately excited, seeing it as a purpose to get in shape. He had about nine weeks to prepare and discovered he was in “terrible shape” for swimming, which was a required part of the training. His biggest surprise on the show wasn’t the physical challenge, but the mental strain and “brain fog.” He noted that the environment was designed to find and break everyone’s weakness, and his was not physical but mental.

Despite the intensity, he said there were no feuds among the cast. He felt it was a team environment where everyone was rooting for each other. The most difficult emotional challenge was when the Directing Staff (DS) would single out one person from the group. He expressed love and respect for everyone there, including the DS, who he felt had found his true weaknesses.

Robin, Their Relationship, and the Past

He shared that his wife, Robin, was initially hesitant about him doing the show, but ultimately was supportive, recognizing that he needed the challenge. He stated that he would never want her to be on the show herself, describing the environment as “very mean” and cruel, which would be too much for her “very, very tender soul.”

The conversation also clarified a misconception about the couple considering opening their marriage. He stated that they were not considering it, but were simply discussing the “curiosity” of it due to their deep ties to the polygamist culture. He acknowledged that the trappings of fame make it unrealistic to ever enter such a relationship again. He also discussed making apologies to his exes, which he described as a hard but necessary step to move forward. He called it a “Phoenix metaphor” where he wanted to “burn my old self down” to rise again from the ashes after a dark five-year period. He felt it was a deeply spiritual move to make things right with himself, his wife, and his exes.

Looking to the Future

He is now focused on a new chapter with Robin. They are working on improving their relationship with goals centered around kindness, communication, and continuing to understand each other.

He is also excited to watch the new season of Special Forces from a third-person perspective to see what his castmates experienced. He mentioned that his children were particularly excited because he was on the show with Briana Leaglia, who they follow on social media. When asked to describe the new season in three words, he said it was “the world’s toughest test.”
