Fans of Bringing Up Bates received tragic news back in May when it came out that “Papa” Bill Bates had passed away. Since then, many fans have been wondering about Mama Jane. Recently, Lydia Bates shared an update concerning Jane and it proved to be an emotional one for fans.

Bringing Up Bates’ Bill Bates Passed Away At The Age Of 86

Viewers were introduced to the Bates family though reality shows like UP TV’s Bringing Up Bates. On the show, fans got to meet Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, their nineteen children, and various extended family.

This included Gil’s parents, “Mama” Jane and “Papa” Bill. Tragically, Bill passed away on May 13, 2025.

As reported by his obituary, Bill passed away peacefully at the Rainey Hospice House in South Carolina. He was 86 at the time of his death. It was noted that he had been married to Jane for nearly 61 years, which were described as “joyful.”

Recently, another member of the family shared an update over Mama Jane since Bill’s passing. This came from Lydia Bates, who is married to Trace Bates and is the mother of Ryker and Kaia.

During the share, Lydia revealed that Mama Jane got to spend time with her great-granddaughter. She wrote, “We visited JaneJane at the farm last week. And Kaia got to meet her great-grandmother. Such a special memory.”

Fans Noticed Mama Jane & Baby Kaia Were Two Of A Kind

Lydia and Trace shared more about the trip on YouTube, which showed the family was having fun on the farm. As they shared, “We took a little trip down to South Carolina so baby Kaia could meet Mama Jane for the very first time. It was such an emotional and unforgettable visit! We spent time out on the farm, relaxing and soaking in the quiet moments.”

This included things like “Ryker running around with the cows” and riding the tractor,” as well as “simply sitting on the front porch as a family.” It was noted, “These are the kinds of memories we’ll cherish forever, and we’re so excited to bring you along to share them with us.”

The carousel photo also shared some of these events, including animals like kittens and cattle, Ryker could also be seen pushing Kaia’s stroller.
